Meet Marissa

Hi, I’m Marissa Acosta-Kane, a fitness instructor and the founder of Move with Marissa.

I first found yoga as a teenager, but I did not truly connect with the practice until my early twenties. I was drawn to hot yoga because I wanted something difficult, disciplined, and mentally transformative. At the time, I was working full time, putting myself through school, and carrying a lot of anger, grief, and frustration with life. The heat, the breath, and the structure of the practice gave me somewhere to put all of that energy. I cried, I got angry, I felt euphoric, capable, strong, supported, and deeply alive. The practice was cathartic in a way I had never experienced before, and it completely changed the way I understood the power of movement. That experience continues to shape the way I teach today.

I’ve been teaching movement since 2019, beginning with my first Hatha and Ashtanga yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India. Since then, I’ve continued to deepen my education across a wide range of practices, including Vinyasa, 26&2 Hot Yoga, Yin Yoga, Meditation, Trauma-Informed Yoga, Pre/Postnatal Yoga, and Classical Pilates. Studying so many different approaches and perspectives has expanded the way I understand movement and given me a broad foundation to draw from when working with different bodies, needs, and experiences.

Over time, I’ve come to believe that the transformative power of movement does not have to look the same for everyone. Challenge might mean intensity and discipline, but it can also mean slowing down, trying something unfamiliar, learning to trust your body, or simply showing up exactly as you are. The form of a practice can change without losing its purpose, power or essence.

My teaching style is intentional, welcoming, and highly adaptable. I believe the practice should meet the person, not the other way around. There is no single way to move, and what serves you may change from day to day, season to season, and throughout different stages of life. My role as a teacher is not to make you fit a particular practice, but to offer you a clear point of entry, thoughtful guidance, and the space to explore what movement can offer you.

Whether I’m teaching in a studio, at a university, outdoors, online, or one-on-one, I teach to the uniqueness of the people in front of me. My goal is to help you develop greater body awareness, build confidence in your own abilities, and experience movement as something that can challenge you, support you, and connect you more deeply to yourself.

Through Move with Marissa, I offer private yoga and Pilates, prenatal yoga, outdoor community classes, and special events. These offerings allow me to bring thoughtful, adaptable movement into different spaces and make the practice accessible to people with a wide range of backgrounds, bodies, and experience levels.

For me, movement is about more than what happens on the mat. It is a practice of curiosity, awareness, resilience, self-discovery, and coming back to yourself. I believe movement can change the way we experience our bodies, our minds, and what it means to be human, and I’m grateful to be able to share that practice with others.
